Understanding the regulation

In 2023, Minister Van Peteghem announced on the official government website the mandatory transition to digital invoicing between businesses in Belgium. This move is not only strategic in the fight against fraud but also aligns with the broader European trend of digitalization.

Digital invoicing options

NORRIQ offers several options for businesses to seamlessly transition to the era of digital invoicing.

Option 1: XML format via e-mail

A user-friendly approach involves sending XML-formatted invoices as email attachments to customers. One major advantage, if you are already using Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, is that no additional installation or add-on is required—this is a standard feature! You can specify per customer whether you want to deliver an e-invoice, which is done through the Document Sending Profile. Business Central allows companies to customize the delivery of e-invoices, providing a seamless and integrated solution.

Option 2: Integration with PEPPOL network

For a more advanced and secure option, businesses can choose to send and receive electronic invoices directly from Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central via the Peppol network. This method is recommended due to the real-time, secure exchange of invoices, offering a safer alternative to email transmission.

Did you know that the use of the Peppol network is mandatory when sending invoices to Belgian and Flemish government institutions? Starting January 1, 2026, structured electronic invoices will become the standard for transactions between taxable enterprises. The European Peppol network will be used for this implementation. By 2028, e-invoicing is expected to become the norm for all transactions.

Once you are connected to the Peppol network, you can effortlessly create online invoices and send them with just one click to any businesses or government services in Europe that are also connected to this network.

But How Does It Work? The Peppol network acts as an intermediary between you and the company to which the invoicing is sent. It ensures a secure, standardized, and efficient flow of invoices, protecting you from suspicious or incorrect invoices. However, it requires an application that enables communication with this network.

An example of such an access point (Access Point = AP) is the Continia Delivery Network, integrated into Continia Document Capture and Continia Document Output. This allows you to securely exchange electronic invoices via the Peppol eDelivery network. It supports access to the Peppol eDelivery Network and provides functionalities for generating, receiving, and importing XML files into Business Central. You can easily extend the standard functionality of Business Central with the "Continia Document Output app".

Option 3: Other electronic formats

With the variety of formats for electronic invoicing in mind, NORRIQ provides support for companies that may encounter specific format requirements.
